Age Group: Preschool
Objectives:
  • Student will participate in an open-ended art activity
  • Student will develop fine motor skills
CDA Competency Standard:  II.7.4b
  • Candidate promotes individual expression and creativity
  • b) Facilitates child-directed and process-oriented creative experiences
Materials: 
  • Various sized stones
Procedure: 
  1. Request student’s help in gathering stones from around the playground
  2. Ask students to create towers using only the stones
  3. As they create, you can ask them open-ended questions to get a peek into their thinking process 
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the student’s fine-motor skills. How many stones were they able to balance before the tower fell?
