Sensory Sandbox

  • Candidate’s facilitation promotes children’s physical development
    b) Guides the development of children’s fine and gross motor skills
Materials: 
  • Scoops
  • Shovels
  • Sifting Trays
  • Pails
  • Bowls

Procedure: 
  1. Sit with student in the sandbox. Demonstrate shoveling and scooping sand into various pails, bowls, sifting trays and other containers. Assist the student in having these experiences in the sandbox.
  2. Explain what is happening to the sand and how it works with different containers. Watch student closely as they explore the sand box.
Assessment: 
  • Observe and record the student’s fine-motor skills. How were they able to grip the scoops and shovels? How did they pour the sand?
